PointRoom is free online planning poker for teams that want to estimate together without setting up accounts. One person hosts a room, everyone chooses cards privately, and the team discusses the results before accepting an estimate.
You only need a browser and a display name. For remote discussion, keep your usual voice or video call open; PointRoom handles the estimation table.
1. Create a room and invite your team
On the homepage, choose Create a room. Enter your display name and, optionally, a room name. You become the host. Invite posse gives you a link, a six-character code and a QR code to share with your team.
Participants open the invitation or enter the code on the homepage, then join with a display name. No email address, password or payment is required. Keep room links within your intended group: anyone with an active link can ask to join.
2. Add a story worth discussing
The host chooses Add your first story. Add a short title, a description if needed and an optional external reference such as an issue number. Start voting opens the round for everyone.
Explain the intended outcome and what finishing the story includes before talking about numbers. A brief reference is not an automatic issue-tracker integration: PointRoom does not import tickets or write estimates back to Jira, Linear or another backlog.
3. Pick your card privately
Choose 0, ½, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55 or 89. Choose ? if you need more information, or coffee to request a pause. You can change your card until the reveal.
Other members see whether you have voted, but not the value. The host cannot see another player's hidden card either. Your own chosen value remains visible to you. If the controls are disabled, check that a story is open for voting and the live connection is available.
4. Reveal and discuss the differences
The host can choose Reveal votes after at least one vote. Room settings also offers auto-reveal, which waits until every joined member has voted, including the host and temporarily disconnected members.
After reveal, the table shows the cards and a statistical summary. Numeric votes contribute to average, median, most-voted value and range; unknown, coffee and missing votes do not. Discuss the assumptions behind different numbers instead of accepting the average automatically.
Use Vote again if new information changed the story. This clears the current cards and starts another private round on the same story.
5. Accept an estimate and start the next story
After the discussion, the host chooses Accept estimate, confirms or edits the final numeric value and saves it. PointRoom then returns to the lobby for another story. Accepted estimates appear in the Session ledger.
The ledger is temporary. Copy estimates and important assumptions into your team's own backlog before ending the room or its 24-hour lifetime. PointRoom currently has no permanent workspace, export button or automatic tracker synchronization.
Characters, quick draws, reactions and sound
Choose your own portrait to change character. Emote opens eight reactions shared briefly with the table. Open Table play, choose Quick draw or Paper toss, then choose an online teammate. Clicking another player's portrait throws paper directly. Both moves share a five-second cooldown; emotes have a two-second cooldown. Quick draws show a playful flash, smoke and a comic impact without changing votes.
Open the speaker button for Table audio settings. Table effects and Cowboy voices have separate switches, plus a shared volume control and test buttons. Both begin muted. Click a test button if the browser needs an interaction to unlock sound; also check the tab and system volume.
Quiet table hides and mutes emotes and table play, and hides new-round intros on your device. It does not change anybody else's preferences or remove core voting sounds you enabled. New rounds have a brief western badge and dealing animation. Reduced-motion settings replace table play and round animations with static indicators. Character, quiet-table and audio choices are remembered locally.
Host controls and session limits
- The host can start stories, reveal, revote, accept estimates, change auto-reveal settings, remove participants and end the room.
- Every joined member is a voter. There is no separate spectator mode.
- Rooms support up to 50 members; the table shows up to 10 visual seats and the full roster remains available.
- Rooms last 24 hours. Creating new rooms is limited to 12 per hour per anonymous user.
- People may change their names or leave. Ending a room stops the session for the whole group.
A shared estimate starts with a shared table.
